Samsung drops One UI 8.5 for 2022 Galaxy phones, eyes dual‑chip Galaxy Flip 8
Samsung announced that several 2022 Galaxy models—including the S22 series, Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, A53 and A33—will not receive the upcoming One UI 8.5 update, which is based on Android 16. The company cited the extensive platform changes required for older hardware, making the update costly and technically demanding, so users will remain on their current UI version.
For the forthcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8, Samsung is reportedly preparing two variants: one powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and another using its own Exynos chip. The dual‑chip strategy is driven by cost considerations and would likely result in Snapdragon models being sold in markets such as the United States, Canada and China, while Europe, India and South Korea receive the Exynos version, echoing earlier regional chip splits.
