Samsung Electronics America cuts 739 New Jersey jobs as HQ shifts to Texas

Samsung Electronics America announced a major workforce reduction in the United States as it prepares to move its headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, to Plano, Texas. The company said 739 positions at its New Jersey campus will be eliminated, and roughly 100 additional jobs at the Texas office are also being cut. The layoffs affect staff in the consumer‑electronics divisions – display, smartphones, televisions and home appliances – while Samsung’s semiconductor unit is excluded.

Most of the affected employees have been offered relocation to the new Texas headquarters; a portion were laid off outright. Samsung explained the move could lead to changes in workforce structure, including employees unable to relocate and the optimisation of certain functions. The company’s chip business is posting record AI‑driven profits, whereas its consumer‑electronics segment is under pressure. U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer noted that about 1,200 workers are employed at the New Jersey site.
