Samsung Electronics and NTT DOCOMO verify AI-based network optimization technology

Samsung Electronics and NTT DOCOMO have successfully verified AI-based Radio Access Network (AI-RAN) technology designed to optimize communication quality for individual users. The technology uses artificial intelligence to analyze a user's movement, service usage patterns, and real-time wireless environment to predict and prevent service degradation.

By automatically applying optimized network settings, such as specific frequency bands, the system can prevent issues like buffering or video quality drops during streaming. In simulations using data from NTT DOCOMO's 5G test networks, the frequency of service transmission speed drops was reduced from 13.1% to 7.2%.

The collaboration also included the development of a data processing method that reduces network load by selectively processing only the information necessary for specific user issue scenarios. The two companies have jointly contributed these procedures to the 3GPP and plan to continue cooperating on AI-RAN advancement and 6G standardization.
