Samsung Electronics discusses AI chip production with Anthropic

Samsung Electronics is in talks with Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI model, to manufacture Anthropic's own AI chips. The discussions centre on using Samsung's 2‑nanometre process and advanced packaging at its Taylor, Texas fab, which is currently in trial operation and slated for volume production next year.

The prospective deal is viewed as a catalyst for Samsung's foundry division, which aims to secure big‑tech customers and achieve profitability after recent contracts with Tesla and Nvidia and possible supply of Google TPU components. Anthropic listed Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron as strategic infrastructure partners in its Series H funding round, and the partnership could help Samsung narrow the gap with rival TSMC amid soaring AI‑chip demand.
