Samsung Electronics expands 2nm production capacity in Taylor, Texas

Samsung Electronics has initiated follow-up equipment investments at its Taylor 1 plant in the United States. This move aims to utilize existing idle space and is expected to bring the facility's 2nm process production capacity to 20,000 wafers per month by the second half of next year.

Recent orders include equipment capable of supporting an additional 6,000 wafers per month for the 2nm process. When combined with previous investments made since late last year and existing pilot line capacity, the facility will reach its designed maximum capacity of 20,000 wafers per month.

The Taylor 1 plant, which saw an initial investment of approximately $17 billion, serves as Samsung's first mass-production foundry line in the U.S. and includes major customers such as Tesla. Looking ahead, Samsung plans to break ground on a Taylor 2 plant by the end of this year, with a target operational date of 2030.
