Samsung Electronics projected to exceed 100 trillion won in Q3 operating profit

Samsung Electronics is projected to achieve a historic milestone in its third-quarter financial results, with operating profit expected to exceed 100 trillion won for the first time. Financial data providers FnGuide and WiseReport estimate third-quarter revenue at approximately 201.7 trillion won and operating profit at roughly 108.1 trillion won, representing a massive increase compared to the same period last year.

The surge is primarily driven by the semiconductor (DS) division, specifically the memory business. High demand for DDR5, enterprise SSDs, and High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) fueled by AI data center investments has bolstered performance. HBM4 production is expected to significantly contribute to revenue, with projections suggesting HBM4 could account for over 60% of total HBM sales in the second half of the year.

Despite the record profits, some analysts note a slowing growth rate compared to the previous quarter. Factors such as a strengthening won and the impact of performance bonuses may influence final figures. While the memory sector thrives, the Device Experience (DX) division, covering mobile and home appliances, is expected to face continued losses due to increased promotional costs and sluggish demand.

In the broader semiconductor market, SK hynix is also expected to see record quarterly operating profits, estimated around 77 trillion won, while US-based Micron has reported record results, signaling sustained demand for memory products through 2027.
