Samsung Electronics union reorganizes to focus on semiconductor division

The Samsung Group Super-Enterprise Labor Union (Samsung Electronics branch) has voted to reorganize itself into a semiconductor-focused union. Following a four-day vote, an amendment to the union's bylaws was passed with a 96.3% approval rate among voters, restricting membership exclusively to employees within the Device Solutions (DS) division.

As a result of this change, the union will transition from covering both the DS and Device Experience (DX) divisions to focusing solely on the DS division. Members currently in the DX division are expected to be processed for withdrawal from the union.

In conjunction with the reorganization, the union also passed motions of no confidence against two DX division officials, Vice Chairperson Lee Song-yi and Gwangju Branch Head Lee Won-il, with approval rates exceeding 95%. The union leadership claimed these officials had attempted to block the DS-centric reorganization. This structural shift follows internal conflicts regarding the distribution of performance bonuses and is expected to alter the approach to wage and collective bargaining negotiations for the semiconductor division in the coming year.
