Samsung to halve free storage upgrade for Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8

Samsung will change its “Free Double Storage” pre‑order promotion for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8. Instead of receiving a doubled storage capacity at no charge (e.g., 256 GB to 512 GB), customers will have to pay roughly half the price difference – about 126,500 won (≈ $90/€80) – for the upgrade. The revision is attributed to a global surge in RAM and flash‑storage component prices, which have risen dramatically over recent quarters. Korean outlet Chosun reported the shift, noting that the promotion, introduced with the Galaxy S23 series in 2023, is being cut for the first time across all three foldable models. Pre‑orders are set to open in late July, with the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for 22 July in London. Samsung says the change is needed to protect margins on its flagship line as memory costs continue to climb.
