Samsung engineers reduce Galaxy Z Fold weight to 201 grams

Samsung has achieved a significant reduction in the weight of its foldable devices through eight generations of engineering. The Galaxy Z Fold8 now weighs 201 grams, which is 52 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold5 and makes it the lightest foldable device currently available.

To achieve this weight reduction without compromising battery life, camera performance, thermal management, or durability, engineers redesigned nearly every component. Key innovations include the use of Flex Titanium technology in the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra, featuring a titanium alloy film only tens of micrometers thick. Additionally, the company refined the machining of metal structures as thin as 0.2 millimeters and redesigned hinges to better distribute load and maintain durability.
