Samsung evaluates third‑party display driver chips for Galaxy S27 standard models

Samsung Electronics is considering diversifying the supply of display driver ICs (DDI) for its upcoming Galaxy S27 series. While the Ultra and Pro variants are expected to continue using Samsung’s System LSI‑produced DDI, the standard and Plus models may receive chips from external suppliers such as DB GlobalChip, Anapass, Wonik D2I and Realtek. The move is driven by rising memory‑component costs and aims to lower the overall bill‑of‑materials for the mid‑range S27 handsets.

Industry analysts say this would break the long‑standing monopoly of Samsung’s System LSI division on flagship DDI, though System LSI would likely retain a first‑vendor role. Similar supply‑chain diversification has already been applied to OLED panels, with Samsung display units sourcing panels from multiple partners to improve pricing leverage. The shift could extend to future models like the Galaxy S28.
