Samsung foldable phones' new batteries rated for 1,200 charge cycles

Samsung Electronics introduced silicon‑carbon batteries in its latest foldable models – the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8. European EPREL data show the batteries are rated for 1,200 full charge‑discharge cycles, roughly half the 2,000 cycles of the previous generation (Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7). At one charge per day, the capacity would fall to 80 % after about 3.3 years.

The same 1,200‑cycle rating applies to Samsung's Galaxy S26 series. By comparison, current Apple iPhone and Google Pixel models are rated for 1,000 cycles, meaning Samsung still leads in rated cycle count despite the reduction.

These specifications highlight the trade‑off of silicon‑carbon technology: higher energy density and larger capacity without increasing device thickness, but a shorter overall battery lifespan.
