Samsung Galaxy S27 series may limit UWB to Pro and Ultra models
Leaked certification data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) suggests that Samsung may alter its flagship lineup strategy for the upcoming Galaxy S27 series. According to the reports, the series may expand to four models: the Galaxy S27, S27+, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra.
Notably, the documentation indicates that Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology might be restricted to the higher-end Pro and Ultra models. The standard Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27+ appear to lack UWB support in the filings. This would mark a significant change for the Plus model, which has included UWB since the Galaxy S21+.
The absence of UWB on the base and Plus models could impact specific features such as high-precision tracking for Galaxy SmartTags, digital car keys, and precise spatial awareness. While these devices would still function via Bluetooth, they would lack the centimeter-level accuracy provided by UWB. Additionally, supply chain leaks regarding protective cases suggest a design divide between the standard models and the premium Pro/Ultra tiers.
