Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra to adopt inkjet‑printed lenses for thinner camera module
Samsung Electronics and its subsidiary Samsung Electro‑Mechanics are developing an inkjet‑printing process for the lens modules of the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, slated for release in 2027. The technique applies a matte ink coating to the rim of selected lens elements, replacing the conventional anti‑reflection film. This reduces internal reflections that cause lens flare and allows the distance between lens elements to be shortened, resulting in a slimmer camera bump.
The process, first trialed on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, will be used on three rear‑camera lenses – the L3 Tele, L3 Wide and L6 Wide – with only one layer of each module receiving the ink coating while the remaining layers retain the traditional film. Industry leaks also suggest a redesign of the rear‑camera array, potentially moving from a four‑lens to a three‑lens configuration and dropping the 3× telephoto lens. Rumoured specifications for the S27 Ultra include a 200 MP main sensor, a 50 MP ultra‑wide sensor and a 50 MP 5× periscope telephoto sensor.
