Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro users report burns and blisters
Users of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro have reported experiencing skin irritation, redness, and liquid-filled blisters after wearing the device while sleeping. In one reported instance, a user woke to find their device battery completely depleted and sustained burns on their wrist where the sensor contacted the skin.
Similar reports have surfaced on Samsung community forums involving other models, including the Galaxy Watch 7, Watch 8, and Watch Ultra. Experts suggest these injuries may be "low-temperature burns," which can occur from prolonged contact with heat sources around 44 degrees Celsius (111 degrees Fahrenheit). Factors such as poor airflow under bedding and reduced circulation due to wrist pressure during sleep may exacerbate the risk.
Samsung has not acknowledged a manufacturing defect or issued a recall, attributing skin discomfort to factors like sweat, cleaning habits, and prolonged wear. However, as the Watch 5 Pro was released in 2022, experts note that aging lithium-ion batteries can lead to uneven heating or reduced capacity.
