Samsung and Apple compete in foldable market with Z Fold8 and iPhone Duo

Samsung and Apple are entering direct competition in the foldable smartphone market with the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the iPhone Duo. The Galaxy Z Fold8 features a 4.5 mm thickness when unfolded and a weight of 201 grams, while the iPhone Duo is reported to be thicker at 5.2 mm when open and 11.3 mm when folded.

Productivity and AI features serve as primary differentiators. Samsung utilizes Galaxy AI and supports multitasking with up to three simultaneous applications, alongside features like Samsung DeX for external monitor connectivity. Apple relies on Apple Intelligence, focusing on on-device processing for privacy, and limits its Split View multitasking to two applications.

Battery performance remains a key point of comparison. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has transitioned to a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon cell. In contrast, Apple has only officially disclosed a video playback figure of up to 44 hours on the iPhone Duo’s outer display, leaving specific cell capacity unconfirmed, though leaks suggest a range between 4,800mAh and 5,400mAh.
