Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra fails durability bend test
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has failed a durability bend test conducted by the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything. While the device's external frame and hinge remained structurally intact, the internal flexible AMOLED display ceased to function following a second reverse bend test.
In the series of stress tests, the Ultra model's cover display, protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, showed resistance to scratches up to level 6 on the Mohs scale. However, the internal folding screen proved much more delicate, showing marks from a level 2 pick or even a fingernail. The device also exhibited grinding noises when subjected to dust and debris in the hinge mechanism.
Observers noted that the failure may be linked to the device's thin 4.1mm profile when unfolded. While the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 passed the same bend test, the Ultra's larger screen dimensions may have created more leverage and stress on the folding edge during extreme pressure.
