Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 shatters South Korean preorder record with 1.44 million units

Samsung announced that 1.44 million pre‑orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 were placed in South Korea between 28 July and 3 August, breaking the previous domestic record of 1.38 million set by the Galaxy Note 10 in 2019. About 70 % of those orders were for the standard Z Fold 8 model, with the remainder split between the Ultra and the Flip. The surge caused delivery delays for some colour‑storage combinations, pushing shipment dates into October.

The Z Fold 8 introduces a wider 4:3 inner screen and is priced at US$1,899.99, while the Ultra version starts at US$2,099.99. Both devices use Samsung’s Flex Titanium hinge, which combines a titanium‑alloy film and plate to improve strength and reduce crease visibility. Samsung also highlighted eight generations of foldable innovation and previewed future technology: Center‑Etched Thin Glass (CTG), a glass‑etching process that thins the folding section to lessen stress and could appear in Galaxy Z 9 models as early as 2027.

These developments underline Samsung’s push to move foldables from niche premium products toward broader market adoption.
