Samsung Göd plant halves water use and trims power amid Hungary drought

Samsung SDI announced that its factory in Göd, Hungary will reduce drinking‑water consumption by 50 % and lower electricity use by 10 % during the critical period. The cuts respond to extreme weather that has produced severe water‑ and power‑supply shortages in the Danube and Tisza basins, with no rain forecast for the coming days.

The company is assessing further savings and remains in continuous contact with water and electricity providers. The Hungarian government has called on large industrial users to curtail consumption and is drafting a crisis plan that could impose temporary mandatory restrictions. The planned shutdown of the third block at the Paksi Nuclear Power Plant, removing about 750 MW of capacity, adds to the strain, while hospitals and other essential services are protected.
