Samsung Group and semiconductor firms see major investor interest
Roundhill Investments has filed for a Samsung Group ETF aimed at providing US investors access to the broader network of Samsung-affiliated companies. While Samsung Electronics has a widely traded American depositary receipt, many other entities within the group, such as Samsung SDI and Samsung SDS, trade exclusively on Korean exchanges. The proposed ETF would use swap-based or derivative structures to allow US retail investors to gain exposure to these companies without requiring direct access to the Korea Exchange.
In a separate move within the semiconductor sector, Soros Capital Management LLC has significantly pivoted its equity portfolio toward semiconductors and AI-related technology. According to SEC filings for the second quarter of 2026, the firm more than doubled its equity portfolio to $559 million. Key additions include large stakes in Micron Technology, Applied Materials, and Advanced Micro Devices, as well as a massive increase in its position in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. The firm also added a $42.8 million position in the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF to gain broad exposure to Korean chipmakers.
