Samsung halts smart refrigerator software update after malfunctions

Samsung has halted a software update for certain smart refrigerators in South Korea after the rollout caused devices to malfunction. The issue originated from an internal test software being accidentally distributed to end-users via the SmartThings application.

Affected users reported various critical failures, including the loss of cooling capabilities, internal lights turning off, unresponsive touch panels, and automatic door systems failing to operate. Some devices became stuck on an ‘updating’ screen, and power cycling the units did not resolve the issue. The malfunctions primarily impact the Bespoke AI 4-Door series released in 2024 and later.

Samsung has issued an apology and is deploying service teams to perform on-site repairs. The company aims to resolve as many devices as possible by September 24, though completion by that date is not guaranteed due to the need for individual technician visits.
