Samsung Health clarifies AI consent: health data not deleted if users opt out

Samsung Health introduced a new consent dialog that asked users to allow health data to be used for training its artificial‑intelligence models. The original wording implied that refusing the consent would stop cloud synchronization and delete all stored health information, sparking widespread concern and criticism.

Samsung has now explained that the warning was poorly phrased. Data collected specifically for AI model training is kept separate from the regular health data used by the app. If a user withdraws consent, only the AI‑training dataset is removed; the user's existing health records and cloud sync continue to function normally. The company says the consent option is fully optional and can be changed at any time. Samsung plans to revise the notice to make the distinction clearer.

The app can access detailed health metrics such as steps, sleep, medication, menstrual cycles and biometric readings from devices like Galaxy Watch. Samsung assures that the removal of AI‑training data does not affect the core health‑tracking features. Tests by third‑party sites confirmed that synchronization remains operational after opting out. The clarification aims to address privacy concerns while maintaining the rollout of new AI‑driven features on upcoming wearables.
