Samsung Heavy Industries and Saronic Launch $3.2 B Texas Shipyard Project

Samsung Heavy Industries and defense‑focused Saronic have signed an agreement to develop a next‑generation shipyard in Brownsville, Texas. The $3.2 billion Port Alpha facility is slated to begin operations in 2028 and will incorporate large‑scale ship construction, automated robotics, AI‑driven production and new supply‑chain models. The partnership aims to revive the United States’ declining shipbuilding sector, creating thousands of jobs and boosting both commercial and defence maritime capabilities.

Saronic will contribute its autonomous sea‑system expertise while Samsung Heavy brings experience in large‑scale shipbuilding and automation. Executives Dino Mavrookas of Saronic and CEO Choi Sung‑an of Samsung Heavy emphasized that merging advanced technology with expanded production capacity is essential to restoring U.S. naval competitiveness.
