Samsung Heavy Industries secures 1.2 billion USD in new vessel orders
Samsung Heavy Industries has secured contracts for six vessels totaling 1.2 billion USD, surpassing its total commercial ship order value from the previous year. The company announced it signed deals with an Oceania-based shipowner for four large-scale LNG carriers worth 1 billion USD and two crude oil carriers worth 200 million USD.
These specific LNG carriers feature an enhanced cargo capacity of 200,000 cubic meters, which is larger than the standard 174,000 cubic meter model. This increased capacity is designed to improve operational efficiency by reducing the number of voyages required to transport the same volume of cargo.
To date, Samsung Heavy Industries' commercial ship orders for this year have reached 7.3 billion USD, exceeding its annual target of 5.7 billion USD and last year's total of 7.1 billion USD. In the offshore sector, the company has secured 4.4 billion USD for two Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) units, representing 54% of its 8.2 billion USD annual target.
