Samsung foldable smartphones attract younger users and iPhone switchers

Samsung is seeing a shift in its foldable smartphone market, with reports indicating that the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 are attracting a younger demographic. In some regions, users in their teens, 20s, and 30s account for nearly 60% of orders, with some reports suggesting the number of iPhone users switching to Samsung foldables has doubled compared to the previous generation.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 series features a new passport-style design with improved aspect ratios, making the devices thinner and lighter. The Fold8 Ultra introduces a premium designation, though reviewers note that technical leaps over the previous generation are modest, lacking some traditional Ultra-tier features like advanced stylus support. The series also utilizes new silicon-carbon battery technology to manage energy density and safety.

However, the Galaxy Z Flip8 has faced criticism regarding its price increases and relatively minor hardware upgrades. While it offers improved brightness and a lighter profile, concerns remain regarding battery life and charging speeds. Additionally, the foldable category continues to face design challenges, such as camera bumps that affect stability when placed on flat surfaces.
