Samsung India conducts layoffs in television and home appliance divisions

Samsung India has reportedly begun a series of layoffs within its television and home appliance divisions as part of an internal restructuring effort. Approximately 80 to 100 executives, including director-level officials, team leads, branch managers, and area managers, have been asked to leave in small batches.

The workforce reductions are driven by rising operational costs and weakening consumer demand. Key economic pressures include a doubling of memory chip prices, increased raw material costs, and a nearly 10 per cent decline in the value of the rupee, which has raised the cost of electronic products. Additionally, India’s smartphone market has seen a year-on-year volume decline of approximately 11 to 12 per cent.

While the smartphone division—which accounts for nearly three-quarters of Samsung’s revenue in India—has reportedly been spared for now, the consumer electronics sector remains under strain. Industry sources suggest that up to 25 per cent of the sales and marketing workforce in the electronics business, including both direct employees and contract workers, could be affected by these cuts.
