Samsung invests $1 billion in AI infrastructure firm Helix

Samsung Electronics and five of its affiliates have committed a combined $1 billion to Helix Digital Infrastructure, an artificial intelligence infrastructure firm. Samsung Electronics will contribute $500 million, while the remaining $500 million will be split among Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance.

Helix, which is led by former Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky, focuses on developing and financing hyperscale data centers, power generation, transmission, and fiber-optic networks. The company was launched with over $10 billion in committed capital and is backed by KKR, Nvidia, the Kuwait Investment Authority, and the U.S. power company Vistra.

The investment aims to support AI-related infrastructure, including semiconductors, construction, cooling systems, and energy storage. Through this partnership, Samsung companies intend to explore cooperation across various sectors, such as Samsung Electronics providing memory and foundry technologies, and Samsung SDI supplying battery and backup power solutions.
