Samsung invests $22.8M in Central Texas ahead of second Taylor chip plant
Samsung Austin Semiconductor has announced a $22.84 million investment in community and workforce development programs across Central Texas. This initiative precedes the planned construction of the company’s second semiconductor factory in Taylor, Texas, which is scheduled to begin in November.
A significant portion of the funding, $10 million, will be distributed through the new Spark! program to 14 nonprofits and public entities, including the Central Texas Food Bank. Additionally, the company is allocating $2.45 million to Taylor ISD and $1 million to the City of Taylor. To support future technical talent, Samsung is investing $1.5 million into a Skilled Trades Employment Pathway (STEP) program for Taylor ISD, focusing on training for electrical, welding, pipefitting, and HVAC roles.
Samsung also plans to expand its paid summer internship program for Taylor ISD students from 24 to 30 participants starting in 2027. Regarding manufacturing progress, the company’s first Taylor facility is on track to become operational by the end of the year, with the second plant expected to be running by 2030.
