Samsung unveils 200MP ISOCELL HPC camera sensor with DeepPix technology
Samsung has announced the ISOCELL HPC, a new 200MP flagship mobile image sensor designed to enhance smartphone photography through advanced light-capture capabilities. The sensor features a 1/1.3-inch optical format with 0.6μm pixels.
A core innovation is the DeepPix architecture, which improves the Full Well Capacity (FWC) of each pixel by approximately 60% compared to previous generations. This advancement, coupled with upgraded Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) technology, allows pixels to store more light before saturation, resulting in better low-light performance, reduced noise, and improved dynamic range.
The ISOCELL HPC is notable for being the first smartphone CMOS sensor to support native 16-bit RAW output, providing significantly more color and brightness data for post-processing. It also supports single-frame 16-bit HDR, which captures a wide dynamic range in a single exposure to reduce motion artifacts. Additionally, the sensor maintains HDR quality across multiple in-sensor zoom levels (from 1x up to 4x).
For video, the sensor supports 8K at 30fps, 4K at 180fps, and Full HD at 360fps. While Samsung has not confirmed specific device debuts, reports suggest the sensor will be utilized by premium smartphone manufacturers such as OPPO, Xiaomi, and Vivo. Some industry speculation suggests OPPO may transition from Sony components to Samsung's 200MP sensors for its upcoming flagship series.
