Samsung launches Galaxy Watch9 and Ultra2 in Japan with AI health monitoring

Samsung Electronics Japan announced that its new Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 will be sold through NTT Docomo starting 7 August 2026, with reservations opening on 23 July. Both models run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite platform and incorporate on‑device AI to analyse biometric data 24 hours a day. The AI predicts the next health action a user should take, alerts for abnormal vital signs during sleep, and provides a heart‑health score.

The Galaxy Watch9 features a lightweight aluminium case and a 3,000‑nit display, while the Ultra2 uses a titanium case with a 5,000‑nit screen and meets EN13319 diving certification. Battery capacity has been increased by about 35 % to 800 mAh, and the devices are 12 % thinner than previous models. Promotional offers include up to 6,000 d‑points for purchases made between 7 and 23 August and a 30 % discount on selected straps.

Samsung frames the launch as a step toward “preventive medicine,” positioning the watches as active partners that suggest lifestyle improvements before issues arise.
