Samsung legal victory forces Datteln to restart school tablet tender

The Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf has ruled that the city of Datteln must restart its procurement process for approximately 650 new school tablets. The decision follows a legal challenge by Samsung against the city's plan to purchase Apple iPads.

Datteln argued that sticking to the existing Apple ecosystem was necessary to avoid the significant complications and maintenance costs associated with switching operating systems. Samsung contested this, arguing that public authorities are prohibited from favoring a specific manufacturer in tenders, as doing so reduces flexibility and economic efficiency.
