Qualcomm denies overheating rumors for Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6

Qualcomm has officially denied reports claiming its Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset suffers from systemic overheating and thermal throttling. The controversy stems from South Korean media reports suggesting that Samsung's internal testing of the Galaxy S27 Ultra revealed excessive temperatures during high-load tasks, potentially leading Samsung to switch to its in-house Exynos 2700 processor.

Qualcomm's Chief Marketing Officer, Don McGuire, addressed the claims on X, stating that the reports are “inaccurate” and that there are no systemic thermal issues with the chip. He noted that manufacturers continuously tune their platforms to balance performance and power consumption during the development process. Some analysts pointed out that McGuire's response specifically addressed the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, leaving questions regarding the 'Extreme' variant.

Samsung is reportedly working with Qualcomm to resolve these thermal concerns by mid-October to maintain its production schedule. If the issues persist, Samsung may revert to using Exynos chips in its Ultra lineup, a move that would mark a significant strategic shift for the company's flagship series.
