Samsung Medical Center to host 13th International Symposium on cell and gene therapy

The Samsung Medical Center Cell and Gene Therapy Institute (SMC CGTI) and the Samsung Advanced Institute for Regenerative Medicine (SAIHST GCTI) will co-host the 13th International Symposium on September 18. The online event will bring together domestic and international experts to share the latest research in stem cell regenerative medicine and cell and gene therapy.

The symposium features seven sessions covering topics such as treatments for rare and incurable diseases, aging and longevity research, and next-generation cell and gene therapy technologies. International speakers include Professor Claudia C. dos Santos from the University of Toronto, discussing mesenchymal stem cells for sepsis; Bradley Thomas Sorenson of Providence Therapeutics on mRNA treatments for brain tumors; Professor Olivia Kim-McManus from UC San Diego on antisense oligonucleotide research for pediatric neurological diseases; and Samir El Andaloussi from the Karolinska Institutet on extracellular vesicle technology for gene editing.

Domestic researchers will present findings on aging diagnosis, stem cell reprogramming, AAV-based gene therapy, and CAR-NK cell therapy. Additionally, a policy session involving experts from the Ministry of Health and Welfare will discuss the current status and future direction of advanced regenerative medicine systems in South Korea.
