Samsung partners with Alcedis to use Galaxy Watch data in clinical trials

Samsung Electronics announced a partnership with Alcedis, a digital‑first contract research organization, to translate biometric data collected by Galaxy Watch wearables into clinically meaningful evidence for pharmaceutical and other research studies. The collaboration will utilise Samsung's advanced sensors—such as bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and electrodermal activity (EDA)—and software‑as‑a‑medical‑device (SaMD) features that detect obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and atrial fibrillation (AFib).

Alcedis will lead study execution and participant engagement, while Samsung provides the wearable technology, research platform, and technical infrastructure to support faster study setup, fine‑grained sensor control and access to participant‑level data. The goal is to improve efficiency, reduce cost and accelerate biomarker and digital endpoint development, bridging everyday health monitoring with scientific discovery.
