Samsung phones show battery‑protection icon; users should verify settings
Samsung’s One UI 7 adds a new shield‑shaped icon next to the battery percentage on its Android devices. The icon indicates that the Battery Protection feature is active, limiting charging to about 80 % to slow lithium‑ion wear and extend overall battery lifespan.
When Battery Protection is on, users may also see a leaf symbol inside the battery icon, signalling that power‑saving mode is engaged, which reduces screen brightness, refresh rates, and background activity. The settings for these options can be accessed via Settings > Battery.
Activating Battery Protection can reduce the amount of charge available for immediate use, but it helps mitigate degradation caused by frequent full charges or high temperatures. Samsung users are advised to check whether the feature suits their charging habits.
