Samsung rebrands Galaxy Z Fold 8 line, demotes Wide model and launches Ultra version

Samsung is set to rename its upcoming foldable lineup ahead of the Unpacked event. The device previously referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will be launched simply as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the model that would have continued the standard Fold 8 evolution will be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The Ultra badge signals higher‑end specifications such as a larger battery and a triple‑camera system, aligning it with Samsung’s premium "Ultra" branding.

Internal marketing documents show the Wide variant being de‑promoted to an optional, non‑flagship offering, with the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 positioned as the primary foldable products for the second half of the year. Analysts note the change may be a defensive response to speculation about future Apple foldables and could create consumer confusion due to the similar naming. The Unpacked showcase will also feature new Galaxy Watch models and Samsung’s first smart glasses developed with Google.
