Samsung's AI Memory Surge Fuels Record Profit and New PC Chip GAIA

Samsung Electronics reported a record operating profit of about 89.4 trillion won (approximately $58.4 billion), driven by a sharp rise in demand for AI‑focused memory products such as DRAM, NAND flash and high‑bandwidth memory (HBM). Analysts expect an 18‑fold profit increase for the next quarter, with operating profit projected around 86 trillion won, as AI data centres and cloud providers boost orders for high‑performance memory.

In parallel, Samsung’s System LSI division announced the GAIA accelerator, a 4‑nanometre AI chip for PCs that integrates Processing‑in‑Memory (PIM) technology. Prototypes are being tested by Lenovo in China and HP in the United States, with mass production slated for the end of 2027. The chip aims to compete with Nvidia and Qualcomm in the emerging PC‑AI market, and Anthropic has begun talks with Samsung about a custom AI chip.

The U.S. government has also signalled interest in expanding Samsung’s domestic memory‑chip manufacturing capacity, urging the company to increase production within the United States.
