Samsung Health forces users to share health data for AI or lose cloud sync

Samsung’s Health app now displays a mandatory consent toggle titled “Consent to the Use of Health Data for AI Training and Modelling.” Users must agree to let Samsung use a wide range of personal health information—including activity, sleep, medication, menstrual‑cycle tracking, medical records and other biometric data—to train and improve the company’s artificial‑intelligence models.

If a user declines, the app warns that health data will no longer sync with the Samsung account and any data already stored in the cloud will be deleted unless local law requires retention. The change applies to both Android and iOS versions and is tied to the upcoming launch of the Galaxy Watch 9 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event on 22 July. Critics argue the approach coerces consent and may breach GDPR, noting that Samsung staff or contractors could review the data. Samsung says the data is needed to power new AI‑driven features such as personalized workout plans, sleep analysis and nutrition advice.
