Samsung rolls out panic‑button feature and outlines One UI 9 support limits

Samsung has added an emergency panic button to its smartphones through the SmartThings app. The feature, offered via the SmartThings Safe Premium subscription, allows users to contact emergency services, send their exact location and, if integrated with Arlo cameras, trigger alerts. A ten‑second window lets users cancel accidental activation. Availability may vary by region.

At the same time, Samsung is preparing the One UI 9 overlay based on Android 17. The update will bring performance, security and personalization improvements, but several older Galaxy models—including the S22 series, Z Fold4, Z Flip4 and various A‑ and M‑series phones—are expected to miss the upgrade as they reach the end of Samsung’s supported update cycle, which now ranges from four to up to seven years for newer devices.
