Samsung SDI sees stock volatility amid rising analyst price targets

Samsung SDI has experienced significant stock price volatility over a six-day trading period, despite its closing price on the 21st remaining only 1.1% lower than its level on the 13th. During this window, the stock saw sharp fluctuations, including an 8.63% drop on the 15th followed by an 11.70% rebound on the 19th.

Despite the volatility, major securities firms have raised their target prices for the company. DB Financial Investment increased its target from 680,000 won to 840,000 won, citing energy storage systems (ESS) as a long-term growth driver, alongside LFP battery mass production and tax credits. Similarly, Shinhan Securities raised its target from 620,000 won to 74,000 won, pointing to ESS expansion in the United States.

Analysts note that Samsung SDI's third-quarter operating profit may be bolstered by one-time gains following the conclusion of its joint venture structure with GM, though the company continues to collaborate with GM on next-generation prismatic battery development. The company is scheduled to announce its third-quarter financial results on the 29th.
