Samsung SDS breaks ground on AI data center in Gumi

Samsung SDS has commenced construction of a hyperscale artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. The facility is being built on a 46,000-square-meter site in Gongdan-dong and is designed to support high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) and power-intensive IT equipment.

The center will begin with an initial power capacity of 60 megawatts (MW), with plans to expand to a maximum of 120 MW to meet increasing AI infrastructure demands. The project is a key component of Samsung Group’s broader 60 trillion won ($44.6 billion) investment plan to transform the Yeongnam region into a global hub for physical AI innovation.

Construction is being managed by Samsung C&T, with completion targeted for late 2028. Following a three-month trial period, the facility is expected to begin full server room operations by March 2029. The data center will serve as a core infrastructure for Samsung’s manufacturing robot transformation (RX) initiatives and AI-driven industrial automation.
