Samsung SDS launches NPU-as-a-Service cloud platform in South Korea
Samsung SDS announced the launch of NPUaaS, a subscription‑based cloud service built on Puriosa AI’s second‑generation neural‑processing unit (NPU) called Renegade (RGND). The offering is delivered through the Samsung Cloud Platform (SCP) and allows customers to access high‑performance AI inference without purchasing or maintaining on‑premise NPU hardware. Users can scale the number of NPU chips (1, 2, 4 or 8) and combine the service with SCP’s storage, compute and high‑speed networking resources. The company highlights the solution’s lower power consumption and cost advantage compared with traditional GPUs, and positions it for sovereign‑cloud environments needed by public‑sector clients. Lee Jae‑hyuk, head of the cloud services division, said, "This NPUaaS launch is not merely a new cloud product, but signifies that customers can flexibly use high‑performance AI technology."
