Samsung Group invests $1 billion in AI infrastructure firm Helix

Six Samsung Group affiliates—Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance—have committed a combined $1 billion to invest in Helix Digital Infrastructure. This US-based AI infrastructure firm was established by the global investment firm KKR and is led by former Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky.

Samsung Electronics will contribute $500 million of the total, with the remaining $500 million provided by the other five affiliates. Helix aims to provide integrated solutions for hyperscale data centers, including power generation, transmission, distribution, and fiber-optic networks. The company has already secured over $10 billion in committed capital from a group of founding investors that includes NVIDIA, the Kuwait Investment Authority, and the US energy company Vistra.

This strategic move allows Samsung to expand its influence from a component supplier to a key player in the broader AI infrastructure ecosystem. By leveraging the diverse capabilities of its affiliates—ranging from semiconductor manufacturing and energy storage to construction and IT services—Samsung seeks to address critical bottlenecks in AI deployment, specifically regarding power availability and data center capacity.
