Samsung seeks dismissal of Dua Lipa’s $15 million lawsuit

Samsung has requested a judge to dismiss a $15 million lawsuit filed by singer Dua Lipa, which alleges the company used her image on television packaging without permission or compensation.

The lawsuit, filed in a California court, claims that Samsung used a copyrighted photograph of Lipa on the cardboard packaging of TVs sold in 2025 to promote the Xite Hits channel on the Samsung TV Plus streaming service. Lipa’s legal team asserts that the use constitutes copyright and trademark infringement, as well as a violation of her right of publicity.

Samsung has denied any intentional wrongdoing, stating that the image was provided by a content partner who gave explicit assurances that all necessary rights, including use on sales packaging, had been obtained. The company argues that the images were intended to demonstrate the television’s on-screen interface and available content rather than to suggest that Lipa endorses the products. Samsung expressed respect for the artist’s intellectual property and stated it remains open to a constructive solution.
