Samsung shares slide 7% and BE Semiconductor drops 8% on sector concerns
BE Semiconductor Industries (BESI) saw its share price fall about 8% after reports from South Korea that SK Hynix and Samsung were reconsidering the timing for adopting hybrid‑bonding technology. ING analyst Marc Hesselink called the news a temporary headwind, noting that "the risk is that revenue is realized later rather than reducing market opportunities" and that the long‑term outlook remains unchanged.
Samsung Electronics posted a record quarter with an operating profit of 89.4 trillion won and revenue rising to 171 trillion won. Despite the strong results, the stock dropped more than 7% as investors took profits and expressed worries about rising memory‑chip prices, higher costs, and competition from SK Hynix, which also fell sharply on the day.
