Samsung shifts TV strategy toward Mini LED and Micro RGB
Samsung is reportedly shifting its television strategy by scaling back production of QLED and Neo QLED models. According to reports from Electronic Times, the South Korean company is significantly reducing its Quantum Dot (QD) TV output, with projections suggesting a drop from 10 million units in 2025 to between 2 and 3 million in 2026.
This strategic pivot is attributed to intense price competition from Chinese manufacturers, such as Hisense and TCL, which have introduced low-cost QD TVs. Samsung has already discontinued entry-level QLED models in favor of Mini LED TVs that do not utilize Quantum Dot films.
In the high-end market, Samsung is reducing the number of Neo QLED models and introducing Micro RGB TVs, which utilize RGB Mini LED technology. The company is expected to further decrease Neo QLED availability next year, with a potential phase-out as early as 2028. Samsung may continue to offer OLED TVs in the premium segment to cater to consumers seeking advanced backlight control.
