Samsung smart glasses expected to launch in November following FCC certification

Samsung is preparing to launch its first smart glasses, referred to as ‘Intelligent Eyewear’ or ‘Galaxy Glasses,’ with a release expected in November. The devices have recently passed FCC certification in the United States under model numbers SM-O200J and SM-O200P.

Unlike many competitors, these glasses do not feature an integrated display. Instead, they utilize a camera, microphones, and speakers to interact with the environment. The hardware is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform and runs on Google’s Android XR operating system. The devices will feature deep integration with Google’s Gemini AI to provide services such as real-time translation, voice commands, and visual object recognition.

To address design and comfort, Samsung has collaborated with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to offer different frame styles. The glasses are designed to be lightweight, with targets to be up to 5g lighter than Meta’s Ray-Ban models. Battery life is estimated at approximately nine hours of continuous use per charge, supported by a charging case providing up to seven additional charges. To address privacy concerns, the glasses will include internal and external LEDs to indicate when recording is active.
