Samsung starts mass‑production of PCIe 6.0 SSD for Nvidia Vera Rubin AI platform

Samsung Electronics announced that it has begun volume production of its PM1763 enterprise solid‑state drive, the first PCIe 6.0 SSD aimed at AI data‑centre workloads. The drive uses Samsung’s ninth‑generation V‑NAND flash and a newly developed 4 nm controller, delivering sequential read speeds of up to 28,400 MB/s and write speeds of 21,900 MB/s – more than double the performance of the prior PCIe 5.0 model. It is offered in 4 TB, 8 TB and 16 TB capacities and is equipped with direct‑to‑chip liquid cooling, post‑quantum cryptography and TDISP security protocols.

The PM1763 is being positioned as a key storage component for Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin AI platform, which entered full‑scale production on 1 June 2026. Initial shipments are expected in the third quarter of 2026 to hyperscalers and enterprise customers. Samsung’s move reinforces its lead in the enterprise SSD market, where it held about 35 % share in Q1 2026, and has prompted shares of rivals SK Hynix and Kioxia to rise. The partnership expands Samsung’s role beyond SSDs to include SOCAMM2 memory modules and HBM4, deepening its involvement in Nvidia’s AI stack.
