Samsung targets 2028 launch of first rollable Galaxy Z Slide phone as screen competition intensifies

Samsung is accelerating development of a rollable smartphone, slated for its first commercial release in the first half of 2028. The device, called the Galaxy Z Slide, is expected to feature a 10‑inch 16:9 display with a pixel density of about 440 ppi that can expand automatically from a compact size to nearly tablet‑sized dimensions. Samsung plans to unveil the phone alongside the Galaxy S28 series and is already prototyping a successor for a 2030 launch. The move follows a sharp decline in Samsung’s foldable‑panel market share, which fell from roughly 41.8 % in Q4 2025 to 27 % in Q1 2026, prompting the company to seek a new differentiator in the crowded premium‑phone segment.

Meanwhile, DXOMARK’s 2026 screen rankings highlight several smartphones with outstanding display performance. The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL tops the list, praised for its OLED panel’s color accuracy, high brightness, and strong eye‑comfort scores. The Pixel 10 and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra also rank highly, offering vivid colors, high refresh rates (up to 120 Hz), and excellent readability in bright outdoor conditions. These assessments underscore the ongoing industry focus on screen quality as a key factor for consumer choice.
