Samsung to reduce Galaxy A production to focus on premium segment

Samsung is planning a significant reduction in the production of its Galaxy A series, with reports indicating a decrease of approximately 20% to 30% for the fourth quarter of 2026. This strategic shift aims to protect profit margins amidst skyrocketing component costs, particularly in the semiconductor sector.

Rising prices for memory components, such as LPDDR5X, have significantly impacted the cost structure of budget and mid-range devices, with memory chips now accounting for over 50% of total production costs for these models. To safeguard its overall financial health and address losses recorded in its Mobile eXperience (MX) division, Samsung is pivoting its focus toward high-end flagship models.

While the Galaxy A series has historically been a major driver of market share—maintaining a strong presence in markets like India—the company is willing to trade volume for profitability. Projections suggest Samsung may produce only about 100 million Galaxy A units in 2027, a reduction of 20 million from previous targets.
