Samsung unveils Eclipsa Audio to rival Dolby Atmos

Samsung has unveiled Eclipsa Audio, a new 3D audio technology designed to compete with the industry-standard Dolby Atmos. Unlike its proprietary rival, Eclipsa Audio is an open and royalty-free format, a strategic move intended to lower financial barriers for content creators and hardware manufacturers.

To drive adoption, Samsung plans to integrate the technology into its Samsung TV Plus streaming service. The company is also seeking partnerships with major tech entities, including Google, to foster interoperability and encourage developers to adopt the format.

The success of Eclipsa Audio depends on its ability to overcome the entrenched hardware and software ecosystem of Dolby Atmos. Industry analysts suggest that the technology's impact will hinge on how quickly developers integrate the tools and whether consumers recognize a tangible benefit in spatial sound quality.
